Larry Lessig on the Corruption Permeating American Politics

What would our democracy look like if we drastically limited the power of lobbyists and reinvented the role of money in politics?

“Most people in the punditry talk about the left side in America versus the right side,” said attorney and activist Larry Lessig. “But I think the most important difference in American politics is between the inside and the outside—the people inside the Beltway of Washington who depend upon this system of corruption, and the people outside that Beltway who just can’t believe this is the way the American government works.”

Lessig and other participants in our roundtable discussed ways that grassroots organizations can mobilize outsiders to challenge the power of insider lobbyists on Capitol Hill.
