Ryan Montoya’s responsibilities include providing direction and managing the Sacramento Kings new technology and innovation strategies to enhance the fan experience and improve the team’s performance. He also heads up esports strategy for the franchise, overseeing Kings Guard Gaming, the Sacramento Kings NBA 2K League team.
Additionally, he oversees all technology for Sacramento’s downtown entertainment and sports complex, Golden 1 Center. The new arena is the world’s most technologically advanced professional sports and entertainment venue. Under Montoya’s leadership the Kings were the first team to utilize Twitter, to utilize Google Glass for home-games, drone technology, and to accept bitcoin. He’s been instrumental in utilizing technology and innovations in the sports industry. Most recently, the Kings became the first sports team to mine cryptocurrency, with machines being installed in Golden 1 Center.
Throughout his career, Montoya has advised, invested and served at all levels of early stage technology companies. A native of Colorado, Montoya received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, a master’s degree from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies and a MBA from California State University, Sacramento.
