    Co-Founder & CEO of NewCo

    John Battelle is co-founder and CEO of NewCo Platform, an event company based on a novel concept that replaces on-site conferences with festivals in which startups and other innovative companies open their doors to attendees. NewCo festivals are now in 16 cities around the world with many more are to come. The company is just now moving into media with NewCo Shift, which covers “the biggest shift in business and society since the industrial revolution.”

    John has followed the front lip of change through a succession of half a dozen media and tech startups over the last 20 years. John founded Federated Media Publishing in 2005 and served as CEO and Chairman until the company was acquired in early 2014. Before that John was Chairman and CEO of Standard Media International – publisher of The Industry Standard, and Co-Founding Editor of Wired magazine and Wired Ventures.

    John helped reframe the reboot of the tech industry with a new narrative after the dotcom crash by co-founding the influential Web 2.0 Summit, where he also served as Executive Producer and Program Chair. He is also author of the international bestseller The Search, which described the history and impact of search engines and the rise of Google.

    John is also Chair of sovrn Holdings, Inc., a Board Director of Acxiom, Inc., a NYSE-listed company, and a Director at Chute Inc.
