    Chief U.S. Commentator & Columnist at the Financial Times

    Edward Luce is the Financial Times chief U.S. commentator and columnist based in Washington, D.C. Luce has worked for the Financial Times since 1995 as Philippines correspondent, capital markets editor, South Asia bureau chief in New Delhi and Washington bureau chief. In 2000, Luce served as the chief speechwriter for Lawrence H. Summers, then U.S. treasury secretary during the Clinton administration. He is the author of In Spite of the Gods: The Strange Rise of Modern India and Time To Start Thinking: America and the Spectre of Decline, published with a different subtitle in North America, Time to Start Thinking: America in the Age of Descent. Luce graduated with a degree in philosophy, politics and economics from New College, Oxford, in 1990, and completed a postgraduate diploma in newspaper journalism from City University, London.
