• Christina M. Samala

    Director of 18 Million Rising

Most people know Christina M. Samala, Director of 18MillionRising.org(18MR), by her last name, thanks in large part to a life time of DJing and competitive sports. Since last August, Samala has lead 18MR, helping to activate, organize, galvanize and empower Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) online here in the states. Pre-18MR, Samala was the Story of Stuff Project’s Director of Online Strategy & Media.

Before shifting the focus of her career to online organizing, Samala spent nearly a decade as a brand consultant, providing creative and technology services to nonprofits and social ventures. In 2008, she co-founded a startup that was the first to digitally license and distribute art, working with Shepard Fairey, David Choe, Justin Bua, Chor Boogie, Apex, Vulcan, Buff Monster, and other names from the emerging, street, and esoteric art worlds. At the age of 11, Samala had her first gallery show in the historic Hopper House, former home of Edward Hopper. In addition to her creative pursuits, Samala is a cyclist, snowboarder, (novice) surfer, former Division 1 lacrosse player and once top-ranked tennis player. An alumna of the University of Pennsylvania and UPenn’s Wharton School, Samala is currently Board Chair of Wiser.org.
