Finding Common Ground in the Future of Foreign Policy

Our team at Reinvent hosted a discussion to explore a broad range of future goals and priorities for American foreign policy. We ended up with more of a debate with many points of contention than a collaborative conversation, though there was certainly agreement on a key key topics: that military force is overused in American foreign policy, and that the voice of the American people needs to be taken into account when major foreign policy decisions are made. This dialogue is an important one to continue. As Heather Hurlburt pointed out, “If progressives can’t among ourselves have debate where we attribute goodwill to each other, then what hope do we have of modeling for our country or for any other country how we can transform things?”
