Reinvent the Collaborative Economy
How do we use the collaborative economy to tackle the challenge of global warming?
This roundtable focused on how to reinvent a more collaborative, sharing, peer-to-peer economy. Companies are reducing the production and service delivery that they have traditionally done in-house in order to leverage the localization, customization, and specialization that is more efficiently done by individuals or small entities. Our anchor, Zipcar Founder Robin Chase, called the resulting collaboration “Peers Incorporated,” and argued that it can deliver economies of scale and the speed of collective action, as well as resilience and innovation that would be valuable in the struggle against global warming. Our participants raised issues surrounding cultural change and institutional system change that would have to be dealt with, but the beginnings of an actionable plan are there.
