Expanding the Role of Outside Organizations in the Nuclear Security Field
What’s the role of the private sector and other actors in regards to the future of nuclear security?
Up to now, nuclear security has remained exclusively in the super secret, highly classified domain of a few nations, yet the risk of a nuclear weapon detonating in the next 30 years will most likely involve decentralized terrorists. The path to nuclear disarmament will likely require the formation of new partnerships with organizations and people outside the traditional nuclear weapons establishment. How do we start thinking about sharing the responsibility of solving this complex problem? This roundtable dramatically expanded the scope of those organizations that could add value in future efforts to curb nuclear proliferation. Potential recruits include the wave of startups developing next generation nuclear energy, companies developing tech like satellite imagery, and any organization involved in global supply chains that move products – and possibly hidden weapons – around the planet.
